Hi, I’m Andrea.

I’m a bit of a data visualisation fanatic, especially in information aesthetics visualisation (looking, designing, building, testing, theorising, writing…). It was born out of my time at the University of Sydney, studying Design Computing, where I completed an honours degree (with University Medal) and later attempted a PhD, of which I did a year of, before moving into industry. Am currently working for the interaction consortium and my own datavis projects.

Unfortunately or not, I am passionate about information aesthetic visualisation to the point of opinionated big-headed-ness, but I think there needs to be another voice in the mix, who can contribute to what’s being said about infovis vs aesthetics.

To me, information aesthetic visualisation cannot be interpreted the same way as we have always read infovis; and yet it seems like people still want to fit it into that box, and try and tether it to an important, but distant ancestor.

The Outliers is here to:

  1. Fight on our own territory.
  2. Put a female visualisation blogger in the mix.
  3. Have someone stuff and explain it.
  4. Reduce the information load, not increase it.
  5. Challenge Define the accepted norms.
